Thanks for the input and I totally agree. If anyone is having problems with liquid layouts becoming too wide on larger screens they can apply a maximum width which will work on browser versions above IE6. max-width can be applied to the main container or elements within the container to keep everything in proportion. For example, most designers design so that the design looks good in 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768, depending, feeling that it should look fine on a large screen that is, say, 1600 x 1280. The major problem with this, however, is that they don't get a second look at the site, in 1600 x 1280 they might have made said content too wide, so that there are too many characters per line, meaning that one with a large resolution has to scale their window down in order to just be able to read the content without getting a headache.
